When the owner of this duplex apartment wanted to give it her style and personality, she fortunately had a close friend and relative to turn to.

The leafy views, proximity to shops and main roads and the lock-upand-go lifestyle are some of the reasons loft apartments in the suburbs have become the housing of choice for many young professionals. The owner of this duplex apartment in Bryanston, Jo’burg, also liked the fact that she could run her clothing design business from the loft section upstairs.

While the apartment was nicely finished, she felt it was a bit bland and needed an injection of personality and style. Fortunately, she had just the right person to turn to – her cousin and good friend interior decorator Candice Koller of CW Interiors.

“We’ve known each other for most of our lives and I know her taste and lifestyle well,” explains Candice. “She is very fashionable, has great style and my aim was to reflect this in the decor.”

The first step was to lay new laminate flooring throughout, including the bathrooms, for continuity. The walls were painted in a subtle neutral and shutters were installed on all the doors and windows. “In a small space, shutters are a better option as they don’t take up space or add clutter,” explains Candice.
